The property became a Federal Corp hospital on July 3, 1863, and remained so through the middle of August. The farm has approximately 2,33 Union and about 1,000 Confederate wounded soldiers. Most of the confederates were captured during General Longstreet’s assault of July 3rd. Surgeon Dwinell recorded 3,260 wounded and 955 southerners. By July 15th, about 532 men remained. This hospital was in close proximity to the First, Sixth, and Twelfth Corps and its wounded spread into parts of the Third and Fifth Corps.
